Who will Blame Brazil For Their Failure To Be Excluded From The Copa America

Copa America: Brazil vs Uruguay

As time passed, Uruguay had lost its glory. However, when the team is Uruguay, the name itself is enough. This day, by defeating Brazil with 10 men, Uruguay seemed to prove just that. They blew away the Selecaos in the Copa America quarter-final match and advanced to the semifinals. Their opponent in the semis is Venezuela.

For the past few years, Brazil has been struggling with an existential crisis. This was evident from the start of the match. Uruguay’s Ronald Araujo, Manuel Ugarte, and Nicolas de la Cruz began to prove themselves from the beginning. The game started with a physical style of play. While Uruguay was desperate to regain their lost glory, Brazil was on the opposite pole. Despite wearing the yellow jersey, there was a lack of Brazilian touch in their play.

Like the other matches, this match also remained goalless. That is, neither team could score in the stipulated 90 minutes. As a result, the match went to a tiebreaker, where Brazil was eliminated after losing 4-2. Brazil missed their first shot in the penalty shootout, with Eder Militao missing. Douglas Luiz missed the third shot, hitting the bar. Although Brazil goalkeeper Alisson saved one shot from the opposition, it wasn’t enough.

From the start of the match, both teams tried to compete fiercely. However, Uruguay surpassed them. In the 10th minute of the match, Darwin Núñez had the opportunity to give Uruguay the lead but couldn’t head the ball. Brazil missed a scoring chance in the 28th minute, with Raphinha failing to score. Uruguay had another opportunity to score in the 47th minute, but Federico Valverde’s shot was saved by Alisson. Despite getting chances in the 52nd, 56th, and 62nd minutes, Uruguay couldn’t convert them into goals. In the 74th minute, Uruguay was down to 10 men when defender Nahitan Nández received a red card and left the field. However, Brazil couldn’t take advantage of this. Vinicius Jr. couldn’t play in this match due to a card issue, and 17-year-old Endrick Felipe was played in his place but couldn’t make an impact.

Uruguay is the most successful team in Copa America history, winning the tournament 15 times in total, while Brazil has won it 9 times. Now, Uruguay has two more matches in front of them. If they win these, they will lift the Copa America trophy for the 16th time.
