Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly Congratulates Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Interim Government Leadership

Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly has extended her congratulations to the interim government led by Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The statement was released by the Canadian mission in Dhaka on Saturday, August 10.

According to the statement, Mélanie Joly said, “We congratulate Dr. Yunus on the establishment of the new interim government. This marks the first step towards restoring peace through free and fair elections and paving the way for democratic governance. Canada supports advancing peacefully to resolve the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh.”

Joly further stated, “During this time of change, Canada is eager to engage with the interim government in supporting a process that includes extensive political participation from all sectors of society, including religious minorities, youth, women, and other marginalized groups.”

She also emphasized, “Canada reiterates its call for calm and urges all parties to work together to advance democratic and inclusive governance, respect for human rights, and the rule of law in Bangladesh.”

Additionally, Mélanie Joly remarked, “Canada calls on the interim government of Bangladesh to support freedom of expression by maintaining full access to the internet and other communication channels. We also urge accountability and a transparent investigation into any incidents of death and violence.”
